Product description

This garcinia species comes from Mexico where it is known locally as limoncillo. It was introduced to fruit growers via Luc Vleeracker, This slow-growing tree appreciates shade for the first couple of years, It bears medium-sized fruits that ripen to orange-yellow fruit and is reported to be of excellent quality, having both sweet and lemony-tart components. There is considerable flesh as it has a relatively small seed.

Planting and Care

They grow well in equatorial and hot climates and need moderate watering. Without pollination, harvest is not possible.

Mangosteen roots have long been used to help women regulate their menstrual cycles in various parts of Indonesia. Mangosteen also lowers cholesterol levels in the body, lowering blood pressure and reducing the risk of heart disease.

Uses/Benefits

The fruit is astringent and acidic. It's a drug that's used to treat dysentery. The seeds are used to make medications that are applied externally. Gamboge is a gum resin derived from the bark, branches, and fruits of the tree. Gamboge has been utilized as a hydragogue-cathartic in Western medicine, although it is no longer widely used.
